Music or a Movie

Friday: Head out to Jazid and check out Locos Por Juana. Formerly known as the group (and side project) called Xperimento have now come together to make the new sound that is Locos Por Juana. The group's unique sound of Latin-rock, funk, and cumbia have snagged them their first Grammy Nomination. Not a Latin Grammy nomination, but the Grammy! The show will go on this Friday, Dec. 19, at 11 p.m. The band's frontman will be autographing copies of the band's title single. No word if c.d.'s will be sold at the venue, but most band's do sell their own stuff at shows. Believe me you will not be dissapointed with these guys. Jazid is located on 1342 Washington Avenue. No word on a cover charge but if there is it's normally only $5-$10. Ages 21+ with ID.

If you're looking for a more laid back place where you can enjoy free jazz, then Van Dyke Cafe on Lincoln Road is the place for you. Dine, drink, and enjoy jazz in their upstairs room. The music is free all you have to do is either purchase a drink or a plate or you're welcomed to just standing around the bar and watching the band. Friday's show begins at 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. with their once a month twilight series. Musical guest include Ira Sullivan & The Inter/Outer Continental Quartet and musical guest Rose Max goes on from 9p.m. - 1 a.m. I advise that you get there early, as space is limited and the waiting list can take a while. Van dyke is located on Lincoln Road. For a calendar of events and information visit thevandykecafe.com

Saturday: Grab a blanket and make your way to Peacock Park for a movie under the stars. There will be a showing of Miracle On 34 Street showing at Peacock Park in Coconut Grove at 7 p.m. Admission is free and they will provide the popcorn. The park is located on 2820 McFarlane Road.

If any of you make it out to some of these events I'd love to hear about it. Feel welcome to share the experience. Have a good weekend!
